Now presenting: the forth comic from Otis College!
This one’s called Rebel Hearts: “In this universe, worlds are strictly monitored and controlled by the government and the C.O.P. (The Coming Out Program). Every world is populated by only one type of sexual preference (ex: “straight world”, “pansexual world”). At a certain age, children are required to declare their sexuality and they are transferred to their respective world.
In the hopes of creating a universal utopia where differences and preferences cannot be judged by anyone, three heroic teens join forces to fight against this oppressive system and bring families and friends back together.”
By students Yaritza Velazquez (IG @yavedesigns), Roya Tabrizi (IG @possiblychoopie), and Cole Johnson (IG @megalo_artist).
Every semester, we partner with the talented students in Otis College of Art and Design’s Comic Book Heroes class who write and illustrate an original comic centered around an It Gets Better Project theme - this past semester’s theme was “Pride.” 💜 Read them all on our website.
When Tiago came out as pansexual, his mom Ana was not surprised. It was only a few years later, when her son revealed that he’s also trans, that she started looking for more info about the LGBTQ community.
Together, they tell us everything they went through in the year that followed his coming out and how Ana began calling him by his real name.
Today they are closer than ever, but there’s still a battle they need to face: it’s not yet possible to change Tiago’s name on his ID.

Time to d-d-d-drop some knowledge about LGBTQ+ terms!
Today’s term is non-binary: A person whose gender identity does not conform to the gender binary, which is the erroneous idea that only two distinct and opposite genders exist (man and woman). In reality, many genders exist, and have existed throughout history! Some nonbinary people identify with more than one gender, while others don’t identify with any.
The important thing: there are many ways to be nonbinary, and everyone’s experience with gender is different.
